The first meeting to discuss splitting North Carolina and South Carolina Toastmasters took place in 1957. After several meetings, the paperwork was submitted to World Headquarters and approved. Dr. Ralph C. Smedley, founder, presented the charter for District 58 to Governor Archie Lugenbeel in late 1957. In 1971, for the first time the district was recognized as a Distinguished District. |
