Dr. Walt Griffin, president of Limestone College, was the recipient of the 2003 Distinguished Toastmaster Joe D. Fowler Upstate Communication Achievement Award on January 17th. The achievement award was established in 2002 to honor Spartanburg’s Joe Fowler for his service and devotion to the Toastmasters program.
The award is given annually by Division E Toastmasters to honor someone in the upstate who is not a current Toastmaster but who has distinguished himself/herself as a leading communicator or spokesperson.
Dr. Griffin has been president of Limestone College since 1992. During his tenure, Limestone has more than doubled it’s day program enrollment, completed major renovations of 10 campus buildings, set an all-time record in its evening Block Program and Virtual Campus enrollments, and achieved a surplus in its operating budget for 11 successive years. Dr. Griffin was chosen for this award for his outstanding public speaking and communicating abilities.
