DISTRICT 58
IS #1 IN THE USA:
Your hard work and
enthusiasm has paid off. You made Distitrict 58 Number 5 in the world
and Number 1 in the US! This finish means that we are a Presidents
Distinguished District and we will be honored at the 75th Annual
Toastmasters International Conference August 23-26, 2006 in Washington,
D.C. Our leaders will be recognized on stage at the conference in front
of Toastmasters from all over the world.
At home we saw our success with every division becoming Distinguished
and almost every area Distinguished as well. Congratulations to everyone
for your labor of love this past year. Let's all work together to make
this year even better for District 58!

Wilson Places Second In the
World Championship Of Public Speaking
District 58 Toastmasters, Douglas Wilson, DTM, placed 2nd in the International
Speech Contest at the Toastmasters International 75th Annual Convention
in Washington, D.C. Congratulations Douglas for a fine showing!

- Dancing To The Region 8 Conference: Michael Ditkoff,
ATM, sent this report: "Although not part of Region 8, the
region accepted my offer to teach "Dancing to Better Speaking" at
the recent regional conference in Charlottesville, VA. My workshop
describes how the elements in good dancing also apply to public speaking.
To illustrate frame, I asked for a volunteer to dance waltz with me.
DTM Patricia Hill waltzed forward. Even with a small space, we were
able to execute advanced figures, thanks to her skill. Thanks
for helping make my session a success, Pat!"
- Toastmaster is Guest Speaker at Naturalization Ceremony:
Dr. Mikhail Agrest, one of District 58's most active leaders, was
the guest speaker at the
Naturalization Ceremony held on May 24, 2006, in Charleston,
SC.
- Club Coaching - Success Stories: Congratulations to Bob Barnett!
Metro Club #3644 achieved Select Distinguished! We also recognize
Subbi Mathur and Jennifer Shambrook for their success with Bee Successors
Club #3734 becoming a Select Distinguished club. Please see the

- Congratulations to South Carolina's three new clubs:
BiLo Shelf-Talkers in Greenville, TRC in Charleston, and McCormick
Club in McCormick. We are expecting GREAT things from these
new Toastmasters!.

58 Pins: In the past, the District Governor has produced
a limited edition, one-of-a-kind pin designed for the members of District
58. We have reinstated that tradition.

- New Club in Fort Mill: A new community club is being
formed in Fort Mill. The club is meeting the second and fourth Tueday
of the month from 7 to 8:15 PM at St. Philip Neri Church - 292 Munn
Road, Fort Mill. Please contact

- Past
District 58 Governor Hal Smoland from Aiken, SC passed away
in early December. He was the District 58 Governor in 1976-77.
Hal gave the District a big boost when he stepped in as District Governor
after the previous 2 District Governors had moved out of the state
and leadership in the District was at a low point. Hal was responsible
for starting the Club Officer training sessions in District 58 at
the district level.
- District 58 Procedures Approved! Toastmasters
International has approved
District 58's Procedures.
- Mikhail Agrest, Division A Governor, invited to speak at a
Naturalization Ceremony in Charleston
- The leadership of the City of
Goose Creek declared November 1 - November 30, 2005, as
Toastmasters
