Dear fellow Toastmaster, Toastmasters in New York City observed Wednesday's anniversary of 9-11 with sadness. Those we lost a year ago included members and former members of Toastmasters Clubs in our city and at the Pentagon; family, friends and colleagues of Toastmasters; and the daughter of a WHQ staff member. One positive memory we have of 9-11 is the expressions of support we received from tens of thousands of Toastmasters around the world. The letters, emails and phone calls came from Toastmasters in almost every time zone. They came from famous cities and from small towns. Our District 46 website, which averages 250 hits daily, received over 10,000 hits a day following September 11th. The outpouring of care and concern expressed by Toastmasters worldwide comforted us. We in New York City will never forget your kindness. On behalf of the members of my Club and of Toastmasters in metropolitan New York, please accept our sincerest thanks. Please convey our gratitude to the Toastmasters in your Clubs and in your District for their thoughts and prayers a year ago. All the best, Mark LaVergne, DTM International Director 1996-1998 President, Metro New York Toastmasters Club cc: Nick LoBue, DTM, District 46 Governor Webmaster's note: Mark LaVergne can be reached at MarkLaVergne@aol.com |
