Become a District 58 Speakers Bureau Member
The District 58 Speakers Bureau is a group of active Toastmasters speakers from District 58 who voluntarily visit other organizations to speak.
Benefits:
- Stretch yourself by gaining a variety of outside speaking experiences
- Publicize Toastmasters
- Help other people and organizations
To Join:
- Be a Toastmaster in good standing of a club in District 58
- Complete at least 6 manual speeches
- Complete an application and submit it to the Speakers Bureau Chair
- Have 2 or 3 presentations prepared
How it Works:
- Organizations contact the District
- Speakers Bureau Chair receives requests, maintains member applications, matches members to organizations, and contacts both parties to exchange information
- Member follows up with organization to schedule date and work out details
- Do Speakers Bureau speeches count for educational award credit?
- Yes, if another Toastmaster attends and completes the manual evaluation.
- Can I receive payment for speaking?
- Members cannot receive direct payment. The organization may make a donation to the District to be used for educational purposes. Payment directly to members jeopardizes Toastmasters International’s non-profit status. Organizations may give speakers an inexpensive gift such as a mug, gift basket, pen and pencil set, etc. if the event is during a meal, the organization typically provides the speaker’s meal at no cost to the speaker.
- Can I promote Toastmasters at the speaking engagement?
- Yes. When scheduling the event, ask the organization’s coordinator what you may do in that regard. You may be able to speak a few minutes about Toastmasters, hand out brochures, etc.
- Where do I get brochures?
- If you are placing an order with Toastmasters International, there are several free brochures available to members, some of which have a maximum free limit. Otherwise, the District can supply through the Speakers Bureau Chair.
- Will the District or my club reimburse my travel?
- No.
