District 58 has a New Prison Club! Allendale Correctional Institution chartered a club in September and we’re having our charter party on Friday, November 13. ” When I saw, first hand, the way these inmates embrace Toastmasters, I wanted to start a club in every prison in the District!” said Dana Swarner, DTM, District 58 Club Growth Director.
Prison programs are some of the most successful clubs in the nation. Toastmasters teaches inmates communication, leadership, team building and organizational skills; instilling confidence that will help them when they search for a job upon release.
Why don’t we have a club in every prison? Starting new clubs costs money. To support one inmate for one year, it costs $92. Most prisons rely on donated funds to purchase Toastmasters manuals and pay membership dues. Without donations, our hands are tied.
